Lyon announced on Saturday that Liverpool target Nabil Fekir would be staying with them after talks between the two clubs fell through, and Reds fans have urged their club to sign Ajax attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech as an alternative.
The Merseyside outfit had seemed to be closing in on a deal for the France international, who likely would have been Philippe Coutinho’s long-term replacement at Anfield, but instead any move has now been called off.
Jurgen Klopp may well have to turn his attentions elsewhere now and Ziyech, who has also been heavily linked with a move to AS Roma, could be near the top of his list after he scored nine goals and provided a further 18 assists in 39 appearances in all competitions for the Eredivisie outfit last term.
Liverpool supporters, the majority of whom also want a £40.5m winger to be added to Klopp’s summer wishlist, have been quick to have their say on Ziyech via social media, and while one labelled him as “better than Fekir for £25m”, another said “Ziyech is my alternative”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
