Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has said that Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would be the perfect January signing for the Merseyside outfit.
Aubameyang, who is valued at £58.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, has scored 133 times in just 200 appearances for Dortmund.
The Gabon international netted 40 times in 46 appearances last term, and already has 13 goals to his name in all competitions during the 2017-18 campaign.
A number of clubs have been linked with a move for the 28-year-old, but Dortmund have thus far managed to retain his services.
According to Thompson, Aubameyang would be the perfect winter signing for Liverpool, and the former centre-back has urged the Reds to make their move.
Thompson told Sky Sports:
“I do feel that come January we need to improve the defenders and get an out-and-out striker. If Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang became available then he should be on our hit list.”
Liverpool are currently seventh in the Premier League table having taken 12 points from their seven games at the start of the 2017-18 campaign.
Next up for the Reds is a home game against bitter rivals Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.
